Punta Cana Airport consolidates its position: captures more than 67% of travelers in the Dominican Republic

The Punta Cana International Airport received 67.71% (3,788,198) of foreign visitors who arrived during the months of January-October 2023, according to the statistical bulletin #253 of October 2023, prepared by the Association of Hotels and Tourism of the Dominican Republic (Asonahores).

The bulletin indicated that 19.58% arrived through the Las Americas International Airport (AILA), and 4.68% arrived through the Gregorio Luperon (Puerto Plata). The Cibao International Airport received 5.51%, La Romana registered 1.03%, Catey (Samaná) 0.95%, and La Isabela (El Higüero) 0.54%.

The information, compiled by Asonahores, also indicates that in the period January-October 2023, the total arrival of foreign visitors and non-resident Dominicans totaled 6,554,589, which reflects an increase of 15.99% compared to the same period in 2022 when the country received 4,746,517.

It also explained that the number of foreign visitors grew by 12.50% in 2022, going from 5,826,086 to a total of 6,554,589 between January and October 2023. The bulletin indicates that in the period January-October 2023, 53.13% of the arrivals were from North America, followed by 16.89% from South America, 16.66% from Europe; Central America and the Caribbean with 9.61%, Asia contributed 2.84%, and the rest of the world 0.88%, according to Resumen Turismo.
