Second meeting on Religious Tourism to highlight Dominican heritage

Santo Domingo.- The 27th edition of the Caribbean Tourism Exchange will host the second Meeting-Conferences on Religious Tourism in the Dominican Republic. This event is scheduled for Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Dominican Fiesta Hotel & Casino Convention Center. The goal is to promote the country’s religious heritage and highlight the various religious tourism circuits available.

Organized by the Ministry of Tourism and the National Commission for Tourism Pastoral of the Dominican Episcopal Conference, the event will feature presentations showcasing the “Paths of Faith” and popular religious traditions of the Dominican Republic. Topics covered will include an evaluation of the country’s intangible heritage, the Dominican Republic’s status as a top destination for religious tourism in Latin America and the Caribbean, and the significance of routes like the “Road to Altagracia” and the “Route of the Promise.”

Architect Kirsis De Los Santos de Checo, head of MITUR’s Religious Tourism department, emphasized the country’s importance as the “Cradle of Evangelization in the New World,” with many sacred sites and temples that have been recognized as World Heritage by UNESCO.
