Dominican ambassador explores tourism collaboration in Saudi Arabia

Riyadh.- The Dominican Republic’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Andy Rodríguez Durán, recently met with Samer Alkharashi, Director of the UN Tourism Regional Office for the Middle East, located in Riyadh. During the meeting, they discussed the office’s initiatives for developing sustainable tourism and explored potential areas of cooperation to promote the Dominican Republic as a tourist destination in Saudi Arabia and the broader region.

Rodríguez Durán expressed his appreciation for the office’s willingness to support the Dominican embassy by offering its facilities for events such as conferences, seminars, and workshops. He emphasized the country’s tourism success, noting that the Dominican Republic welcomed over 10 million visitors in 2023. Additionally, 92% of surveyed tourists expressed satisfaction with their visit and indicated a desire to return.

Saudi Arabia, currently holding the presidency of the UN Tourism Executive Council, is set to host the 26th General Assembly of the UN Tourism Organization in 2025.
