Dominican Republic and Honduras strengthen bilateral relations
Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic, led by President Luis Abinader, continues to deepen its diplomatic and trade relations with Honduras under President Xiomara Castro de Zelaya. From 2022 to 2023, trade between the two nations grew by 25.8%, with Honduras exporting US$185 million worth of goods to the Dominican Republic in 2023. Officials project a continued annual growth of at least 10%.
Efforts are underway to establish direct air connectivity, addressing a major hurdle in enhancing travel and business exchanges. Both governments are currently finalizing agreements to launch direct flights, which is expected to boost tourism and bilateral business activities once implemented.
Since Ambassador Luis GarcĂa Mercado took office, 20 bilateral agreements have been signed in diverse areas, including a Commercial Air Agreement, Tourism Agreement, and an agreement for exporting Dominican medicines to Honduras. Notable initiatives also include a collaboration in the technological sector, providing 1,000 scholarships for training in artificial intelligence and technology. These efforts reflect a strong commitment to expanding cooperation in various sectors.
