Dominican Republic will be “FITUR Partner” in 2022

At the stand of the Caribbean country, the collaboration agreement has been signed for the next edition to be held from January 19 to 23

The Minister of Tourism of the Dominican Republic, David Collado, and the Director General of IFEMA MADRID, Eduardo López-Puertas, have signed this morning the collaboration agreement by which the Dominican Republic will be ‘FITUR Partner’ in the next edition of the event, whose The celebration is scheduled for January 2022. The agreement was signed during the celebration of FITUR “Special Recovery Tourism” that, organized by IFEMA MADRID, is taking place from May 19 to 23.

Also present at the signing ceremony were José Vicente de los Mozos, President of the Executive Committee of IFEMA MADRID; Cristopher Paniagua, Executive President of the Banco Popular Dominicano; Samuel Pereira, General Administrator of the Reserve Bank; Anibal de Castro, Accredited Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to the UNWTO; and Rafael Blanco, President of Asonahores.

As ‘FITUR Partner’, the Dominican Republic will have a prominent presence and strategic visibility at FITUR 2022. The destination will project its brand alongside that of FITUR on the promotional media of the fairgrounds and also on those that will be exhibited in the city of Madrid to promote the event (subway, buses, Cercanías stations, canopies, banners, etc.). Likewise, the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic will participate in the press conference for the official presentation of FITUR 2022 and in the Opening Ceremony.

This is the second time that the Dominican Republic has the category of ‘FITUR Partner’, since it was already in the FITUR 2019 edition. So far it is the only destination that has repeated as ‘FITUR Partner’.

FITUR: unbeatable platform
“We are convinced that FITUR provides an unbeatable platform at the international level to associate our brand as a tourist destination and consolidate in 2022 the positive result of all the efforts we have undertaken since the beginning of the pandemic to overcome it and recover tourism in the Dominican Republic ”, declared the Minister of Tourism, David Collado.

For his part, the President of IFEMA, José Vicente de los Mozos, highlighted the importance of the Dominican Republic being a FITUR 2022 Partner because “IFEMA MADRID represents a hub for the Ibero-American market, and especially FITUR, whose main presence at the fair it is made up of the American countries. A fact that also occurs not only in the face-to-face field, but this year also in the digital sphere, with Latin American destinations and companies being the ones with the greatest activity and representation at FITUR LIVEConnect, where more than 24,000 professional interactions have already been carried out ”. And he added, “for us it is a pride in this special edition, the first in the world of the sector to be held in person, to be contributing to the reactivation of the sector in Spain and in the rest of the world,

Before the pandemic, the Dominican Republic received 6.5 million tourists a year and had managed to consolidate its leadership among Caribbean destinations thanks to its impressive and genuine offer of nature and culture, as well as its excellent provision of tourist infrastructures. The emergence of Covid-19 quickly led to a paralysis of world tourism, which the Government of the Dominican Republic dealt with quickly, articulating in coordination with the private sector a management that the World Tourism Organization has not hesitated to describe as exemplary.
