Downpour area has a 30% chance of becoming a cyclone in the next 48 hours

Santo Domingo – The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) reported that for this Saturday, the humidity and instability generated by the active tropical wave and the incidence of the trough in height will be originating in the morning hours, cloudy developments with scattered showers, thunderstorms and isolated gusts of wind.

These possible rains will mainly affect Hato Mayor, El Seibo, Samaná, María Trinidad Sánchez, Duarte, Espaillat, Puerto Plata, and Monte Cristi, among other nearby areas.

The institute added that rainfall will be more frequent and intense in the afternoon until late at night, with thunderstorms and strong gusts of wind in the mentioned provinces. It will extend over the towns of Sánchez Ramírez, Hermanas Mirabal, Santiago, Santiago Rodríguez, Valverde, Dajabón, La Vega, San Juan, and Elías Piña.

Cyclone Update

Indomet noted that it is monitoring a disorganized area of downpours and thunderstorms associated with low pressure located north of Hispaniola. For the next 48 hours, there is a 30% probability of cyclonic development.

In addition, the potential tropical cyclone number 15 reached the category of tropical storm Nadine early this morning. It is located 115 kilometers east of Belize City, with maximum sustained winds of 65 kph. It is moving westward at 15 kph. Due to its location and displacement, it does not pose any danger to the country.

For Greater Santo Domingo, the minimum temperature will be between 23 °C and 25 °C and the maximum between 32 °C and 34 °C.
