Minister Bisonó meets with ambassadors to place Dominican products and services abroad

Santo Domingo , RD  The Minister of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes, Víctor -Ito- Bisonó met separately with the ambassadors of the Dominican Republic in Trinidad and Tobago, Wellington Bencosme, and of the European Union and the Kingdom of Belgium, Iván Ogando, with the aim of establishing an action plan that encourages the participation of the local industry in those markets.

With the ambassador of Trinidad and Tobago, Bisonó  held a working session in order to define an action plan that allows the strengthening of political, economic and commercial relations with that Caribbean island.

They also outlined strategies to develop mechanisms of  financial, logistical and communication order to deepen business relationships  existing for decades, taking into account the role played  Trinidad and Tobago in the English Caribbean and the potential there is for Dominican industries.

Minister Bisonó appreciated the effort made by the government of President Luis Abinader “to improve commercial relations with our partners in the Caribbean area, with a plan made up of concrete actions that have already been building and strengthening the necessary commercial ties to continue reactivating the economy ”.

Business partners

Trinidad and Tobago is one of the main trading partners of the Dominican Republic  in the Caribbean region and Ambassador Bencosme  direct efforts  to rethink those relationships and make them more productive for the benefit of both nations.

In the historical catalog of exports from Trinidad and Tobago to the Dominican Republic,  industrial products are registered as  cereals, snacks and glass bottles, prepared sauces, bananas, candles and cigarettes, among other products we demand and are recognized by that nation for their quality.

European Union and United Kingdom

Among the actions developed by the MICM to promote and make commercial relations between the country and other nations sustainable and beneficial for the national productive sectors, Minister Bisonó held a working meeting with the Dominican ambassador to the European Union and the Kingdom of Belgium,  Ivan Ogando.

Minister Bisonó is concerned  the departure of the United Kingdom from the European Union, given that many  of Dominican exports touched British territory to later be distributed in Europe, which is why they established strategies that will allow them to articulate a route to place Dominican products in European markets in an agile and effective way.

The minister  raised  the need to  form a team with all the actors involved in the process, in order to  to reach agreements  among member countries so that the Caribbean community advances.

He also highlighted the need to assume leadership in the Caribbean, so that the projects signed between the member countries can continue, while considering that the obstacle lies in the lack of continuity and state policy, that should be strengthened to have greater credibility as countries.
