President Abinader and Minister of Tourism inaugurate new boardwalk in La Romana

David Collado says that the work, which cost more than 88 million pesos, will have a direct impact on tourism in this destination.

La Romana – The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, and the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, headed this Wednesday the inauguration of the new boardwalk in the municipal district of La Caleta, La Romana province.

The project, which is part of the actions and vision of recovering the sea view in recreational areas throughout the Dominican Republic, had a cost of RD$88,115,153.16.

President Abinader highlighted the importance that the new boardwalk will have for tourism and recreation of its residents, which will continue with a second stage that will benefit all communities in the province.

«We have wanted that every community that is in front of the sea, has a view of the sea, promoting real estate investment and developing the economy to create jobs,» said the president.

Minister Collado said that this work will have a direct impact on the tourism proposal of that destination.
«Here we are with President Luis Abinader delivering this beautiful boardwalk, a long-standing desire of this hard-working community and fulfilling the commitment we made to you,» said Minister Collado.

He reiterated his commitment to continue rescuing the country’s beaches and seawalls, «because we cannot continue living with our backs to the sea,» he said.

The project consisted of the refurbishment of 9,800 square meters of seafront, including the renovation of 576 linear meters of paved road, from La Playita Park in La Romana.

The work was carried out by the Executing Committee for Infrastructure in Tourist Zones (CEIZTUR), of the Ministry of Tourism.

Among the scope of the work are: reconstruction of the road infrastructure, 2,100 square meters of sidewalks on both sides and 1,250 linear meters of curbs; renovation of the Playita Park, urban equipment, electrical installations and lighting, storm drainage solution with complementary water collection facilities; landscaping in areas, viewpoints for contemplation, among others.

A standard section of two three-meter traffic lanes, sidewalks and landscaping on both sides of the road.

The landscaping design included Gri Gri Gri, Penda, Almácigo, Guáyiga, Wedelia and Silver Mangrove plants.

The site equipment consisted of benches, picnic tables, trash containers, signage, concrete bollards, street and plaza lighting, and stainless steel railings.
