London, United Kingdom. November 2023.- The arrival of tourists to the Dominican Republic from Great Britain could double in the next 5 years, assured Frank Elías Rainieri, president of the Punta Cana Group, at the tourism forum held during the tenth Dominican Week in the United Kingdom, in which he was accompanied by Julia Simpson, president of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), and which was organized by the British Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic (BRITCHAM RD), in collaboration with the Dominican Embassy in the United Kingdom and the Embassy of the United Kingdom.

The businessman affirmed that new investments are being made in the Dominican Republic in order to diversify the tourist offer, which includes internationally renowned hotel brands, as well as the increase in air connectivity, highlighting, in addition, the public-private collaboration in tourism, as fundamental factors for a considerable increase in British tourism to the country in the coming years.

“The projection is very positive and the opportunities for growth are extraordinary; and to materialize them, we must continue to invest, both public and private sector, so that our infrastructure continues to improve and an increase in hotel rooms is achieved, continue to improve the areas of tourist attraction and of course, devote more resources in a country promotion directed so that the British can know everything we have to offer for them in the DR” said Rainieri.

For his part, Simpson highlighted the progress that the Dominican Republic has made in tourism and how it has been one of the leading countries in being able to recover this sector, long before most countries in the world after the effect of the COVID pandemic. He also praised the work in sustainable tourism that different private groups are developing in the Dominican Republic, especially the Punta Cana Group.

“British tourists want different things; they want sun and beach; but they also want a tourism with history and cultural richness, that invests in sustainability and the environment, a tourism rich in gastronomy, and the Dominican Republic has this capacity; so if they continue working in this direction they will be able to get more tourists from the United Kingdom to choose the DR for their trips and vacations” said the world tourism executive.

Amauris Vásquez, president of BRITCHAM and Mockbul Ali, ambassador of the United Kingdom in the Dominican Republic emphasized that the Dominican Week in the United Kingdom is an opportunity to bring investors from the tourism sector to the Dominican Republic in order to contribute to the goal set by the Dominican government to reach 10 million tourists.

This session of the tenth edition of Dominican Week is being held with the sponsorship of Grupo Punta Cana, United Petroleum, Gulf, Texaco, as well as other traditional and new sponsors such as Banreservas, INICIA, Seguros Reservas, the Dominican Stock Exchange, the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic, INAPA, Banco Popular, Grupo Rannik, BANDEX, DGA, PRIMMA VALORES, GAMMA, United Capital, TIMM, among others.
