Government reimburses US,240 per tourist card through November

The Dominican Government has returned US$59,240 for tourist cards in the period January-November 2021.

According to data from the General Directorate of Internal Taxes (DGII) during the referred months, 5,924 cards were approved for the refund of US$10, while 1,847 tourist cards were rejected, for a total of 7,771 requests for disbursement.

The DGII statistics show that the airlines and consignees paid between January and November of this year US$53,279,058.32 for tourist cards.

According to Listin Diario, the month in which the aforementioned organizations paid the most money for this concept was November with US$6,015,401.17, followed by April with a total of US$5,730,270.71.

It is recalled that President Luis Abinader, announced that a system was established to reimburse through the Banco de Reservas, the US$10 tax paid by Dominicans living abroad, to those who request it when they fill out the eticket or digital migration card.

Pursuant to the provisions of Article two of Decree No. 430-17, the following may opt for reimbursement of the tourist card included in airline tickets issued abroad: Dominicans who have purchased airline tickets as of April 25, 2018 at points of sale outside the Dominican Republic and foreigners residing in the DR with a valid residency card.

Likewise, foreigners with a valid Dominican visa and diplomats accredited in the country and citizens of countries that by bilateral agreements ratified by the National Congress are exempt.

According to Internal Taxes, in an information published in its web portal, requests for reimbursement may be made through the option “Request Reimbursement” through the offices of the DGII and by crediting the credit or debit card of the applicant.

Once the reimbursement request is received, the DGII will have a term of 15 business days, counted from the deposit of the request, accompanied by the corresponding documentation, to give a response.

The applicants will have a maximum term from the purchase of the air ticket until 30 days after the entry to the Dominican Republic, to request the referred reimbursement.

To request the reimbursement of the tourist card, a copy of the passport, a copy of the air ticket with the breakdown of the taxes and fees charged, a copy of the valid residence card or visa and the diplomatic accreditation in the Dominican Republic (applies in case of diplomats) are required.
