Dominican Republic begins a stellar participation in FITUR
The Caribbean destination is the Partner Country of the International Tourism Fair that opened its doors today at IFEMA and runs until January 23.
FITUR is the first annual event for world tourism professionals and the leading trade fair for inbound and outbound markets in Ibero-America.
The International Tourism Fair (Fitur), which is held from January 19 to 23, 2022, invites meeting, incentive, congress and event tourism professionals in its Fitur MICE section.
According to the organizers, the fair offers a strategic point for the meeting between supply and demand specialized in this key segment for the revitalization of the tourism industry in the global arena.
FITUR 2022 presents the Dominican Republic as a partner country, giving this participation an outstanding role and strategic visibility for the promotion to the entire world of the great tourist attractions of this destination with such strong linguistic, cultural and historical ties.
UNWTO Recognition
The World Tourism Organization (WTO) awarded recognition to the Dominican Republic for its successful recovery in the tourism industry and its efficient handling of health protocols in the different destinations of that Caribbean country.
The award was presented by the Secretary General of the UNWTO, Zurab Pololikashvili, to President Luis Abinader with the presence of the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, during a meeting with more than 200 travel agents, tour operators and airline owners in the framework of the celebration of version 42 of the FITUR tourism fair, which officially begins this Wednesday.
The Secretary General of the UNWTO highlighted the management and sanitary protocols applied in the Dominican Republic to guarantee safe tourism, thus achieving the most successful recovery of the industry in the entire region, reaching record figures in the arrival of tourists.
President Abinader thanked the distinction and explained that since his arrival to the presidency, the recovery of tourism has been one of the main priorities, given the contributions it represents for the Dominican economy.
Minister Collado attributed the success of the recovery to the political decision of President Abinader and the joint effort of the public and private sectors, hand in hand with the Association of Hotels and Tourism (ASONAHORES), which was represented by its president Rafael Blanco Tejera.
“From the Tourism Cabinet we have spared no effort to achieve this recovery because for us tourism has a human face” said the Minister of Tourism, who presented the destinations of the Dominican Republic to the more than 200 tour operators and travel agencies that gathered at the Eurostar Hotel in this city.
Also present at the activity were the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism of Spain, Reyes Maroto, the Dominican ambassador to Spain, Juan Bolivar Díaz, the Dominican ambassador to the UNWTO, Anibal de Castro, and more than 100 businessmen from the country.
Minister Collado explained to the different agencies and tour operators that the Dominican Republic is the only destination in the region where 100% of the employees in the tourism sector are fully vaccinated with two doses, and that it has the lowest incidence rate of infections. in the tourist poles so the country is a safe destination to travel.
He indicated that, thanks to its recovery, the Dominican Republic has become a benchmark for tourism in the region.
