INFOTEP will train more than seven thousand technicians in the Bávaro-Punta Cana tourism sector
The National Institute of Professional Technical Training (INFOTEP) will train more than seven thousand people in training actions related to the tourism sector, specifically in the Bávaro-Punta Cana area, in response to what was agreed between the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, and the businessmen in the area, at the recently held International Tourism Fair (FITUR).
The general director of INFOTEP, Rafael Santos Badía, explained that on the instructions of President Abinader, together with the Ministry of Labor, the institution will carry out an “accelerated staff training session” aimed at training the human capital of the Bávaro-Punta tourist destination. Cane.
Santos Badía indicated that tourism in that area of the eastern region of the country has grown faster than the training of personnel, for which it requires a greater intervention than the one that the institution has been doing for several years with its hotel school, Gastronomy and Confectionery of Higüey.
“We are going to move mobile gastronomy and tourism workshops to Punta Cana to train people, together with the Association of Hoteliers of the East, and on his side the Minister of Labor is coordinating the invitation to people who want to work, for us to train them. ”, he expressed.
Similarly, he indicated that INFOTEP will hire services from private institutions that can assist in this effort to train these more than seven thousand people.
These actions will guarantee that the new 20,000 hotel rooms that will be built by hoteliers in that area, and which were announced by President Abinader at the closing of FITUR, have guaranteed human capital that will provide services to their visitors.
Parallel to this, the institution announced the construction of the Punta Cana International Professional Technical Training Center, for which it already has the land in the Verón municipality, much of it donated by the Puntacana Group.
The Center will provide virtual and semi-face-to-face training services and will have an infrastructure for training where optimal environments are available for the learning and practice of the participants, supported by new technologies, and a building for accommodation for the participants and workshops. of complementary occupations of the hotel industry and tourism.
INFOTEP contributions to tourism in Puerto Plata
Along with the work that INFOTEP will carry out in the eastern region, in the north of the country, in Puerto Plata, an intense training program will also be carried out to train the workforce that will provide assistance to the tourism sector that is in clear recovery at this time.
Santos Badía explained that many of those who were trained as professionals in the tourism industry in the Bride of the Atlantic, migrated because that sector had fallen in the area, for which the intervention of INFOTEP is essential.
“Now that two weekly cruises are arriving in Puerto Plata with seven thousand tourists who demand services and the workers are not there, we need to train the people of that area, so that these tourists are well served,” he said.
Therefore, on February 11, INFOTEP has scheduled a meeting with all the businessmen of Puerto Plata to launch an accelerated project for the training of technical workers and entrepreneurs, so that they can also create small businesses that serve tourists.

In the south of the country, in Pedernales, tourism will also have its big push and INFOTEP has already prepared a whole training program that seeks to cover all the personnel that will work from construction to the start-up of the hotels.
“We are going to start the training programs in Pedernales in March, so that when the hotels arrive, the people of the south will benefit,” said Santos Badía.
The governing body of professional technical training intends to train masons, carpenters, plumbers, electricians in Pedernales and nearby provinces, and then it will train for the gastronomic, hotel and service industries.
