Recovery in tourist arrivals pushes increase in hotel occupancy

Maintaining the recovery trend that the tourism sector has had since September of last year, hotel occupancy by zone has improved markedly in the different tourist destinations in the country, according to February data presented by the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur).

In this sense, the breakdown indicates that in Bávaro-Punta Cana the occupation was 79%, 43% more compared to February 2021 when it was 36%.

In Boca Chica-Juan Dolio occupancy was 65%, 21% more than last year when it was 44%.

For the hotels in Greater Santo Domingo, occupancy increased by 20%, since last month it was 63% occupied and in 2021 it was 43%.

In the North zone, Puerto Plata obtained 53%, 23% more than in 2021 because only 30% of its hotels were occupied. Meanwhile, Sosúa-Cabarete enjoyed 72% (33% more) when last year it obtained 39%.

60% was obtained by Santiago, surpassing the 43% of last year with 17%.

In addition, in La Romana-Bayahibe, according to Mitur data, occupancy was 90%, 38% more than in February 2021 when only 52% of accommodation was occupied.

Samaná remained at 67%, increasing its occupancy in February 2022 by 18%, since in the same period last 2021 it was 49%.

The Mitur, in addition, indicates that the occupation in the rest of the destinations was 65%, exceeding the 34% of February 2021.

For the hotel occupancy count, the entity is endorsed by the arrival of 566,235 passengers, which represents a growth of 268% compared to 2021, which the country registered in the second month of the year.

It is recalled that the Dominican Republic has 92% of hotel rooms in operation, of which the general occupancy remained at 75% in February 2022 after the country received 90,708 daily visitors. In 2021 the amount was 36%, receiving 25,909 visitors.
