The secretary general of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Juan Carlos Salazar, and the regional director for North, Central America and the Caribbean of that organization, Melvin Cintron, agreed to define the aeronautical sector as a key factor in the recovery of tourism in the Dominican Republic, after the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The two authorities of the governing body of civil aviation at the world level affirmed that the country’s aeronautical institutions responsibly and efficiently fulfilled the complex task of guaranteeing operational safety and the sufficiency of international flights to support the strategy adopted by the Dominican Government to recover in record time the operation of its main economic sector.
Both Salazar and Cintron praised President Luis Abinader and the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, for the wisdom of having created the Tourism Cabinet and articulating a joint effort with all the public and private actors in the tourism industry, where aeronautical activity plays a an essential role, considering the condition of insular territory of the Dominican Republic.
The secretary of the Latin American Civil Aviation Commission (CLAT), Jaime Binder, also expressed the same opinion, congratulating the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC) for offering the facilities jointly with ICAO and the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore to organize in the country the meeting of civil aviation directors general of the Americas on aviation resilience and the Workshop on Compliance with ICAO Recommended Standards and Practices (SARPs).
The high representatives of ICAO and CLAT issued their considerations during their participation in the second day of the conclave held in the tourist community of Punta Cana, where the Minister of Tourism and the founder and leader of Grupo Puntacana, Frank Rainieri, also spoke.
Meanwhile, the interim general director of the IDAC, Hector Porcella, also stated that the selection of the country as the venue for the meeting is a recognition of the efforts made by the government of President Abinader to support the recovery of civil aviation, a strategic sector for support the development and sustainable growth of tourism.
