Trust will invest RD,600 million to build the first hotel in Pedernales

The first hotel of the Pedernales tourism development project will be built with an investment of RD$6,600 million in an area of 241,654.00 square meters.

According to the General Directorate of Public-Private Partnerships (DGAPP), this amount is what has been estimated as investment in the construction of the hotel so far, but indicates that it is not an exact figure because it is subject to the variation of the blueprints.

“There is a 5% of unforeseen expenses and other issues of Tax on Transfer of Industrialized Goods and Services (ITBIS)”, explained the entity.

The construction of “Hotel Lot No. 10” as described in the specifications for the execution or contracting of the work, will be the property of the Pro-Pedernales trust and not the chain will operate it.

In that sense, Sigmund Freund, general director of the DGAPP, said that until now the agreements contemplate that Iberoestar will be in charge of the operation but it does not mean that it will be the owner.

The hotel, which will have 580 rooms of the more than 4,500 that the first phase of the project will have in Cabo Rojo, will be operated by the Iberoestar hotel chain.

It is recalled that last Monday, August 29, the tender for the first hotel in Cabo Rojo began, which according to Freund, is a step from dream to reality.

“The bidders or proponents for the construction of the hotel must submit offers that include all the budget chapters corresponding to the 580 rooms,” he added.

According to the specifications prepared by the Technical Management Unit of the Pro-Pedernales Trust, the offers must include the lobby and convention hall, shops and representatives, restaurants and coral level rooms, as well as the swimming pool and spa gym.

It should also include a children’s club, family rooms, standard rooms and a sports area, civil works for the hydro-sanitary and electrical infrastructure.

It is recalled that the Pedernales tourism development master plan contemplates being executed in four phases, in 10 years, with an estimated investment of US$ 2,245 million and a total of 12,000 rooms at the end of the project.

In the first stage, which covers 762 hectares, the contemplated investment is US$ 1,300 million in the construction of 4,500 rooms.

In terms of jobs, they want to create 10,500 direct jobs, giving priority to the residents of Pedernales.
