Abinader and Collado highlight a record of 5.6 million tourists until August
President Luis Abinader and Tourism Minister David Collado agreed that the industry is “better than ever” in the Dominican Republic, reaching the historic record number of 621,953 arrivals in August, thus surpassing the same month of 2019 in 124,563 visitors, and cumulatively between January-August the flow amounts to 5,655,980 visitors.
They also reported that if the 94,792 cruise passengers who visited the country last month are added to the aforementioned figures, “we are talking about 716,745 visitors in August, including tourists and excursionists, something never seen before,” said Collado.
Showing the growth figures of the sector to President Abinader and representatives of the private sector, Collado reported that from January to August the country received 4,904,162 tourists and another 755,818 excursionists, so the projection of having the best year in the history of tourism Dominican in terms of visitor arrivals remains.
“This means, Mr. President, that in eight months Dominicans received the visit of 5,655,980 people. If this is not a record in the arrival of tourists, what do we call it? ”, He manifested.
On his side, the president highlighted the policies that the government has carried out in order to achieve these results and assured that they will continue to promote the sector, which is currently the main engine of the Dominican economy.
Of the 621,953 visitors in August, 502,289 were foreigners and 119,674 ethnic. The arrival of foreigners in August represents a growth of 27% compared to 2019 and 11% compared to 2018.
Ethnic visits last month also saw an increase of 18% over August 2019 and 39% compared to 2018.
The arrival of tourists, by air, last month marks a record, since it exceeds the years 2018, when 537,576 arrived; to 2019 with the visit of 497,390, according to a statement from Mitur.
The presentation of the statistics on the tourist flow in August was attended by Frank Rainieri, along with his son Frank Elías Rainieri, as well as the Governor of the Central Bank, Héctor Valdez Albizu; Mónika Infante, from Aerodom, as well as the president of Asonahores, Rafael Blanco Tejera, among other personalities.
