Paraguayan tourism authorities interested in the JICA project in the Dominican Republic

A commission from Paraguay visited the Dominican Republic to learn about the work methodology of the Sustainable Community Tourism project executed with the support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), carried out together with the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur), the MEPyD and the Infotep.

It was chosen as a model by the Tourism authorities of Paraguay due to the successful results in the northern region where it has been implemented.

A commission from the departments of Itapúa and Misiones of the Republic of Paraguay met with the resident representative of JICA in the Dominican Republic, Takayuki Kondo, the project advisor Kayo Omachi and the project officer, Doris Holguín, to whom they expressed their interest. for learning about the work methodology of the “Project to Strengthen the Mechanism for the Development of Sustainable Community-Based Tourism in the Northern Region.”

In the departments of Paraguay, the “Strengthening of Regional Associations” project will be developed with the support of JICA. The methodology of territorial groups and work units of the Sustainable Community Tourism project in the DR, are the two components that aroused the greatest interest in the Paraguayan authorities and that they wish to replicate in their country.

They also highlighted that the project that they will implement seeks to promote collaboration between the government, the private sector and academia, a mechanism that is present in the Sustainable Community Tourism project of the Dominican Republic.

During their stay, they visited the Chocolala Productive Unit in Altamira, Puerto Plata and the Guanico Municipal Unit for Community Heritage, in addition, they met with the Espaillat Tourism Board and the Sánchez Ramírez Tourism Development Council, among other activities aimed at to know the work techniques implemented in the Dominican Republic.

The Paraguayan delegation thanked JICA and the Dominican authorities for sharing their experiences, and showed their interest in continuing to cultivate this cooperation between the two nations, according to RCN.
