Air Century requests to operate 10 new routes from Punta Cana airport
The Civil Aviation Board (JAC) heard Air Century’s request for a Special Permit to operate 10 direct and regular routes from Punta Cana International Airport to the cities of Havana (Cuba), Oranjestad (Aruba), Willemstad (Curacao), Philipsburg (Saint Marteen), Cartagena (Colombia), San Juan (Puerto Rico), Maracaibo (Venezuela), Valencia (Spain), Montego Bay (Jamaica) and New York (United States), Cartagena (Colombia), San Juan (Puerto Rico), Maracaibo (Venezuela), Valencia (Spain), Montego Bay (Jamaica) and New York (United States), operations that strengthen the air connectivity of the Dominican Republic, while allowing more passengers to travel to and from the Dominican territory. This was informed by José Marte Piantini, president of the organization.
He explained that the start of operations is projected for June 1, 2023 and according to the requested frequencies Air Century will make 553 round trip flights in Bombardier CRJ200 aircraft, with capacity for 50 passengers and Airbus A321, with capacity for 220 passengers, so it is estimated that they will be offering to the market approximately 243,320 new seats.
During the period from January 2021 to December 2022, the operator mobilized 83,409 passengers in 4,601 air transport service operations. “The destinations requested by Air Century are important markets for the DR, so we expect an increase in the number of travelers to the national territory, due to the greater access that today from the Civil Aviation Board we are establishing,” he said.
In the fifth session held, the members of the plenary heard the request for a Special Permit in favor of the national air operator Sky High Aviation Services to operate the routes: Santo Domingo/Panama City/Havana; Santo Domingo/Miami/Havana; Santo Domingo/Panama City/Caracas; Santo Domingo/Miami/Bogota; Santo Domingo/Miami/Montego Bay; Santo Domingo/Miami/Grand Cayman; Santo Domingo/Miami/Managua and Santo Domingo/Miami/San Jose, Costa Rica.
The president of the CAB also informed that Sky High requested another Special Permit to carry out 105 passenger operations, during the period between June 1st and December 1st of this year to operate the Santo Domingo/French Guiana and Santo Domingo/Port of Spain routes.
During the period from January 2021 to January 2023, Sky High mobilized 93,673 passengers in 5,021 operations, it is estimated that based on the frequencies of each route and the scheduled itinerary, it will operate 635 roundtrip flights starting March 13, 2023.
“We are working hard to continue to insert the country into a more global dynamic and strengthen air connectivity through the implementation of air trade policies aimed at two very important axes: access to new markets and the consolidation of existing ones,” he said.
