Dominican Republic targets 10 million tourists this year

The Dominican Republic Hotel and Tourism Association is holding the DATE 2023 tourism marketing fair, which is part of the agenda to promote the country as a destination.

Within the framework of the Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange, the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic released data on traveler visits last year and the objectives for 2023.

In 2022, 8.5 million tourists arrived in the country. Of these, 7.1 million foreigners arrived by air. And for this year, it is expected to reach 10 million tourists, which implies a great growth for the sector.

In this first quarter, 2.8 million tourists have already arrived, which has been a precedent in the history of Dominican tourism. There is a desire to turn the Dominican Republic into a sustainable and environmentally friendly destination. By May, the Government will sign a resolution to eliminate plastic from all hotels.

In addition, a decrease in the price of airplane fuel is being evaluated in order to reduce the cost of travel tickets. Meanwhile, the most important beaches in the country are being refurbished.

The Dominican Republic is the first country to hold a seminar to find a solution to the sargasso that covers the beaches of the Caribbean Sea.
