IDB recognizes the Colonial City Revitalization Program executed by MITUR of the Dominican Rep.

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) recognized the Integral Tourism and Urban Development Program of the Colonial City of Santo Domingo (PIDTUCCSD), implemented by the Dominican Government through the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur), for meeting its goals and objectives within the established timeframe, proactive planning and commitment.

The recognition was received by Amín Abel Santos and Sixto Brea, general coordinator and operations coordinator of the Program, respectively, from Katharina Falkner-Olmedo, IDB representative in the country, together with other IDB executives, during the meeting “Driving Execution towards Results Achievement”, which was organized to evaluate the effectiveness of the executing units in charge of the programs they sponsor in the country.

The event, which took place over three days at the local IDB office, was aimed at articulating greater synergies and taking stock of the impact achieved by the investment projects financed by the institution in the Dominican Republic.

It also served to demonstrate the effective work, empowerment and commitment of the Program Coordinating Unit (PCU) and the leadership exercised by Mitur, which has enabled significant progress to be made in each of the PIDTUCCSD projects.

In this regard, Amín Abel Santos, on behalf of the Program and Mitur, expressed his gratitude to the IDB, explaining that “this recognition that we received with great enthusiasm and humility commits us to continue working tirelessly, deploying all our efforts to achieve our goal of revitalizing the Colonial City, for the benefit of all its residents, merchants, local and international visitors and all Dominicans”.

He added that “we are currently executing several projects that will directly impact the quality of life of the residents of the historic center, strengthen the development of the local economy, make the tourist offer much more competitive and, therefore, will lead us to turn the Primate City into a model in the country and the region, which is the vision and goal of our Minister of Tourism, David Collado”.
