Government allocates RD$15 billion in road works to develop tourism in Pedernales
The Minister of Public Works and Communications (MOPC), Deligne Ascención, assured that the Government is allocating some RD$15,000 million for the expansion, opening and improvement of roads in the South, in support of the tourist development of Pedernales.
He said, during a supervision tour of the internal road works of the Cabo Rojo project, that in the works being carried out, progress is being made in the construction of the Enriquillo-Pedernales highway.
After highlighting the progress made on the tracks, he assured that work is underway to have the tracks ready in December when the cruise ship will be received in Cabo Rojo.
“The progress is a sign of the eagerness of the government presided by Luis Abinader to make the development of the South a reality,” he emphasized.
Ascención said that an example is the Azua and Baní ring road, as well as the widening of the Enriquillo-Pedernales, Barahona Enriquillo and the internal roads to connect the Cabo Rojo area with the country.
Ascención toured from Enriquillo, Cabo Rojo and Pedernales, together with Sigmund Freund, director of (DGAPP); Hugo Pérez Ovalles, president of Grupo Therrestra; businessman Juan Ramón Gómez Días, among others.
Details of the works
The internal roads of the Tourism Development Project of Pedernales, Cabo Rojo, consist of about 18 kilometers, 14.7 km on the main road that extends from the entrance of the project from the Enriquillo-Pedernales highway, to La Cueva.
The secondary road extends from the vicinity of the distributor (Enriquillo-Pedernales) through the Cabo Rojo dock to the intersection with the main road.
On the Enriquillo-Pedernales highway, a length of more than 70 km is being rehabilitated to improve access to the town of Pedernales and to the project. On this road, the layout is being ratified to raise the speed limit from 60 km/h to 80 km/h.
According to the estimated schedule, the internal roads of the Cabo Rojo project will be ready by December, while the Enriquillo-Pedernales road will be at a high percentage of completion.
