Dominican Republic breaks records with more than 6.2 million visitors by July 2023

Santo Domingo. – Tourism in the Dominican Republic continues to reach new heights in 2023, with figures that confirm an unprecedented success in attracting visitors. The Caribbean nation’s Minister of Tourism, David Collado, presented data on visitor arrivals (tourists and cruise passengers) between January and July, revealing a staggering achievement: as of July, the country has received a total of 6,295,667 visitors.

In July 2023, the Dominican Republic experienced a historic month with the arrival of 792,981 non-residents, consolidating this month as the best in the country’s entire tourism history. These figures eclipse previous achievements, surpassing even the months of July and December 2022, which had been the only months in which the country had surpassed the 700,000 tourist mark.

Of these 792,981 tourists arriving in July, 652,506 were foreign visitors and 140,475 were Dominicans. These figures reflect steady growth compared to previous years, with a 34% increase compared to 2019, a 41% increase compared to 2021 and an 8% increase compared to the previous year.

The positive impact is also being felt in the cruise industry. In July alone, the Dominican Republic welcomed 148,560 cruise passengers by sea, further consolidating its status as a preferred destination for travelers. In the cumulative period from January to July, the Caribbean nation has welcomed an impressive total of 1,416,011 cruise passengers, a historic milestone in the country’s tourism history.

In the words of Minister Collado, “If we add the 792,981 tourists who arrived by air last month and the 148,560 visitors who arrived by sea, we are talking about a total of 941,541 visitors. This is something historic for the month of July”.
