GNTO Journalism Award for Sustainability Piece open for entries
LOS ANGELES, CA – The German National Tourist Office (GNTO) is now accepting applications for its Journalism Award for Sustainability Piece. This inaugural competition focuses on sustainable travel in Germany. As part of the country’s effort to exhibit its commitment to preserving the destination, Germany created a sustainable tourism campaign called Feel Good. The first-place winner, announced Dec. 7, will have the opportunity to see this campaign in action as part of the awarded press trip.
“The German National Tourist Office is excited to launch the inaugural Journalism Award for an outstanding piece on sustainability in Germany,” said Ricarda Lindner, Regional Manager of the Americas, GNTO. “We are aware of the responsibility tourism has towards the environment. For over a decade, the GNTO has been building its role as a leader in the field of sustainability. Environmental protection and climate action are core elements of our strategic focus and marketing, and we are looking forward to seeing inspiring work from writers who share the same mindset and passions of sustainability and travel as we do.”
The Journalism Award for Sustainability Piece aims to encompass Germany’s commitment to sustainability through the lens of tourism and hospitality. Journalists who enter will be asked to demonstrate their writing skills in addition to any knowledge or experience on the topic of sustainability in Germany. Once a writing sample has been submitted, entries will be judged by a panel of industry professionals, professors and journalism faculty from various North American universities whose work focuses on sustainability or tourism. The winner of the Journalism Award for Sustainability Piece will receive a grand prize of a sustainable tourism-focused press trip to Germany, funded by the partners of GNTO. Transportation, hotel, dining and activities will be provided.
Applicants interested in entering to win must be 18 years of age or older, be a citizen of North America (U.S. or Canada), have an up-to-date passport and be able to travel internationally within the next year. Entries can be submitted from Sept. 11 through Nov. 19, 2023.
