David Collado says World Tourism Day finds the country in its best moment

Santo Domingo – Minister David Collado affirmed on Wednesday that World Tourism Day finds the country in an enviable position and said that for the first time the Dominican Republic received 7.6 million visitors in the first nine months of the year.

“This World Tourism Day finds the country in the best position in its entire history,” said Minister Collado. Leading an activity to celebrate World Tourism Day, held at the Jaragua Hotel in the capital, Collado said that the sector has become the mainstay of the Dominican economy.
He reported that the tourism industry maintains double-digit growth and contributes more than US$7.7 billion in foreign exchange to the economy.

The official gave a brief account of his three-year term as head of the Ministry of Tourism, highlighting the successful recovery of the industry after the pandemic, which merited the recognition of the World Tourism Organization.

He cited the record growth in tourism, the recovery of the beaches, the road infrastructure in the different destinations and security in all enclaves.

“All these achievements are the result of a joint effort between the public and private sectors. That is why this World Tourism Day finds our country in an enviable condition”, ratified Minister Collado. The president of ASONAHORES, David Llibre, congratulated all the actors of the sector, who have guaranteed the success of the industry.

He said that World Tourism Day finds the country in an extraordinary moment, guaranteeing great contributions to the economy.

Every September 27, since 1980, World Tourism Day is commemorated, an activity promoted by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), which year after year seeks to promote tourism investments in a sustainable manner.
