Dominican Republic projected to reach 11 million tourists by 2024

Santo Domingo, D.R. May 27, 2024 – Dominican tourism continues its sustainable growth by reaching the historic figure of 4,178,683 visitors in the first 4 months of the year, which projects that this year 2024 will exceed the arrival of more than 11 million visitors.

This was informed by the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, in his traditional press conference where he announces the performance of the industry, which was held in a hotel in the Dominican capital.

The official said that in the months January-April the country received 3,039,302 tourists by air, which represents a growth of 10% compared to the same period of 2023, 24% compared to 2019 and 30% compared to 2018.

Regarding cruise passengers, Collado reported that in the first 4 months of this year the country received 1,139,381 visitors by sea, which represents an increase of 15% compared to 2023, 173% compared to 2022 and 234% compared to 2019.

“Those arrivals give us the big number, 4,178,683 visitors in the first four months of this year, yet another record,” said the Minister of Tourism.

The arrival of 4,178,683 visitors represents a growth of 12% compared to the same period in 2023, 52% compared to 2022 and 43% compared to 2019.

He indicated that in April alone the country received 704,740 tourists, via air, which represents a growth of 3% compared to the same month of 2023, 12% compared to 2022 and 20% compared to 2019.

In April the arrival of cruise passengers was 248,459, which means a growth of 37% compared to the same month of 2023, 175% compared to 2022 and 234% compared to 2019, said the official.

The three countries that contributed the most visitors in April were the United States with 53%, Canada with 18% and Colombia with 3%.
