MITUR strengthens the cleaning of tourist destinations with the delivery of 42 pieces of equipment to municipalities

Dominican Republic – The Ministry of Tourism (MITUR) delivered 42 pieces of specialized solid waste collection equipment to various municipalities and districts with a focus on tourism this Wednesday, as part of its strategy to strengthen cleanliness, order, and sustainability in the country’s main tourist destinations.

The delivery was led by the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, who provided local authorities with 30 garbage trucks, six street sweepers, and six tractors, acquired through an investment of over RD$128 million.

The equipment was allocated to municipalities and tourist districts in Punta Cana, Bayahibe, San Pedro de Macorís, Barahona, Cabrera, Samaná, Baní, and other coastal towns that receive thousands of visitors each year.

More Support for Tourist Destinations

During the event, Minister Collado announced that the government has already begun the bidding process for the acquisition of 30 additional trucks and 20 new street sweepers, which will soon be distributed among other municipalities and districts with tourism potential.

The official noted that this initiative follows a first phase in which the Ministry of Tourism delivered 45 dump trucks to reinforce cleaning efforts in various destinations throughout the country.

International Alliance for Sustainable Tourism

The delivery of this equipment is part of a cooperation agreement between the Dominican Government and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), aimed at strengthening environmental management in tourist communities.

In this regard, the Ministry of Tourism invested approximately RD$86 million, while the Government of Japan, through JICA, contributed around RD$41 million to make this important initiative possible.

Commitment to Sustainability and Local Development

With this delivery, the Ministry of Tourism reaffirms its commitment to continue supporting local governments in improving municipal services, contributing to cleaner, more organized, and more attractive destinations for both domestic and international visitors.

The initiative seeks to strengthen solid waste management, improve the quality of public spaces, and consolidate the image of the Dominican Republic as a sustainable and competitive tourist destination on an international level.
