Dominican Republic attracts Mexican hotel investments

The Dominican Republic maintains the leadership in tourism within the Caribbean region thanks to its political and macroeconomic stability, due to respect for the value of legal security and due to the unanimous recognition that the beauty of its biodiversity arouses.

These factors, together with its privileged geographical location, arouse the interest of the main players in the Mexican tourism sector such as Grupo Posadas, Original Group, Grupo RCD Hotels or Playa Resort, who show a willingness to expand their offer in the 2021-2022 period.

“The main Mexican hotel groups constitute a decisive engine of Dominican tourism development; They are promoters of innovation in their accommodation, they raise medical and health standards to guarantee stays that are as safe as they are happy, they attract the attention of very diverse profiles of visitors and their long-term views allow them to glimpse in the phases of uncertainty a morning full of opportunities ”, expressed Carolina Pérez, director of the Tourism Promotion Office (OPT) of the Dominican Republic in Mexico.

Among the most significant Mexican hotel investments, the following stand out:

Original Group began construction work on Tempation Miches Resorts (its first resort abroad) on September 4, which is scheduled to open in 2022. This project will involve the creation of 496 rooms in the Miches area, with an investment approximately $ 120 million dollars and will generate more than a thousand direct jobs.

The Posadas Group plans the opening in 2021 of the Live Aqua Beach Resort Punta Cana; It will be its first complex in the destination, it will have 347 suites and its architectural design will facilitate communication between modernity, luxury and environmental care. On the same dates, the construction of the Grand Fiesta Americana Los Corales in Punta Cana will begin with an estimated investment of 130 million dollars and in partnership with the Los Corales Development company.

The RCD Hotels Group after a successful bet with Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Punta Cana plans its second property on the island under the name Latitud 18 in Santo Domingo.

Along with the new properties, we must mention the projects promoted by the Grupo Playa Resorts under the names of Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana and Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana that opened their doors at the end of 2019 (they have 750 rooms and represent the vanguard of Hyatt in the Republic Dominican).

The Dominican Government, through the Ministry of Tourism led by David Collado, contemplates within its tourism plan a set of measures whose implementation will generate significant opportunities for foreign investment and will contribute to the integral development of the nation.

Public-private partnerships will be reinforced under the premise of transparency and efficiency in management, an institutional commitment that will guarantee existing or planned investments and will attract the interest of other large international corporations.

It should be noted that the Tourist Development Council (CONFOTUR) approved 52 projects during the first half of the year with an estimated investment of USD $ 5,323.2 million and that they will provide about 30,346 new rooms. Data that strengthen the consideration of the Dominican Republic as a destination open to the world and where the well-being of its population is possible thanks to the progress of a sector as dynamic and with high levels of employability as tourism.
