Dominican Tourism Minister highlights the resurgence of the activity
The official spoke at the ceremony where President Abinader laid the first stone to begin the construction of the St. Regis Cap Cana Resort & Residences hotel complex
The Minister of Tourism, David Collado, proclaimed yesterday that at the time of President Luis Abinader assuming the Presidency, hotel occupancy was barely 5% and, on the other hand, in a resurgence of this sector “all hotel occupations for the month of December in the eastern zone, it will be between 40 and 50 percent ”.
In this sense, Collado meant that the resurgence of Dominican tourism is possible due to the effort made personally by the president.
The official spoke at the ceremony where President Abinader laid the first stone to start the construction of the St. Regis Cap Cana Resort & Residences hotel complex, scheduled to start operations in April 2023.
The resort will consist of a hotel with 200 luxurious rooms, suites with spectacular sea views and 67 residences, 67 residences for sale under the “St. Regis, ”and will be operated by Marriott International and a world-class 8-hole golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus.
During the activity, Matt Knights, regional general manager of the Marriott firm, highlighted that “the inauguration of St. Regis Cap Cana Resort & Residences marks an exciting moment for both Marriott International and for the tourism market of the Dominican Republic.
“Cap Cana is truly one of the most exclusive tourist destinations in the world and fits perfectly with the iconic St. Regis brand and its guests,” he said.
In that vein, representatives of the tourism sector indicated that by the end of the year, 70% of the hotels in the area will be operating.
Yamil Isaías, executive vice president of Pioneer, the management company of the Investment Fund, and a shareholder in the project, pointed out that the total investment to be carried out in this project amounts to 220 million dollars, which will generate more than 1,200 jobs, both indirect and direct. and they seek to diversify the hotel offer in the country.
He said that the incorporation of the St. Regis brand to the Dominican Republic will diversify the hotel offer, which will mark an important milestone for the national tourism industry.
On his side, the engineer Dino Campagna, president of Campagna Ricart & Asociados, partners, builders and promoters of the project, stated that the new investments will make the country a world-class destination.
The project will be developed on a plot of 67,000 m2 and 200 linear meters, on a beach within the Cap Cana complex.
It has multiple factors that predict its success, such as the reputation and credibility of its shareholders, developers and promoters, its spectacular beach, its paradisiacal location, as well as its avant-garde and unique architectural concept.
“The design is inspired by the Punta Espada golf course, by the signature and design of Jack Nicklaus, where the hotel and residence areas are integrated into the environment as if they were a natural part of the course,” said Campagna, who also stressed that the protection and care for the environment have been one of the most relevant design criteria.
The initial act of the work was also attended by the Administrative Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza; Samuel Pereyra, administrator of the Reserve Bank; Eduardo Grullón, president of the Board of Directors of the AFP Popular; Héctor Garrido, president of Pioneer Investment Funds, and Fernando Hazoury, president of the Board of Directors of Cap Cana, as well as the tourism advisers of the Presidency, Paco Blanco and Joel Santos, among other guests.
At the end of the event, Abinader made a tour of the facilities of Margaritaville Island Reserve, Marina Cap Cana, and finally, shared a lunch with the Hazoury family, at their residence.
