ACI-LAC congratulates DR on upcoming signing of the Open Skies Agreement with the U.S.
Airports Council International Latin America and the Caribbean (ACI-LAC), the international association of airports, congratulated the government of the Dominican Republic on the upcoming signing of the Open Skies Agreement with the United States.
“International experience shows that open skies agreements stimulate the growth of both passenger and air cargo air traffic between countries by allowing free competition in the air transport market,” the letter stated.
In addition, they state that “the possibility that any Dominican or North American airline can fly between any airport in those countries without any type of restriction as to the number of frequencies and seats offered will be positive for the Dominican Republic”.
“We encourage and support the government of the Dominican Republic to negotiate similar treaties with other countries and, in particular, the country’s main markets: the Caribbean, Canada, Latin America and European countries, since this open skies policy will have a positive impact on society and the national economy,” said Rafael Echevarne, general director of ACI-LAC.
