Adompretur conducts “International Workshop on Tourism Journalism”

Santo Domingo – The Dominican Association of Tourism Press (Adompretur) successfully held the “International Workshop on Tourism Journalism”, with Miguel Ledhesma, president of the World Organization of Tourism Journalism (OMTP), as keynote speaker, at the INFOTEP Auditorium, in Santo Domingo.

In her speech, Yenny Polanco Lovera, president of Adompretur, said that “the content of this workshop is important because it put into context the relevance of tourism in press coverage in our Latin American countries”.

He thanked Miguel Ledhesma for sharing his knowledge with Adompretur members and Dominican journalists who are always eager to learn how to inform the population with accurate and truthful data about the events generated by this industry.

“We are happy to hold this workshop, with which we culminate two years of management in Adompretur, in which together with my board we have developed a work agenda in which training was always present,” said Polanco Lovera.

He also indicated that “we are sure that the knowledge of this workshop will be of great learning for all participants because it highlights the importance of tourism and its industry in the Dominican Republic and internationally.

Polanco Lovera concluded his remarks by emphasizing that, with this event, the 2021-2023 board of directors is ending its term, in which training was always very much on the agenda.

“I thank the World Organization of Tourism Journalism for giving us the opportunity to share this experience in the Dominican Republic; and our sponsors INFOTEP, Arajet and Grabo Estilo for making it possible for us to live this experience”.

In his presentation, Miguel Ledhesma, president of the World Organization of Tourism Journalism (OMTP) made profound reflections on tourism and its possibilities as a subject of journalistic writing and publication in conventional media and digital platforms offered by technology.

Ledhesma thanked the Dominican journalists for their interest in participating in this workshop, equivalent to the first class of the 31st International Certification in Tourism Journalism that he teaches online. He also invited them to continue this training digitally.

Acknowledgements

Yenny Polanco Lovera presented a plaque of recognition to Miguel Ledhesma for his stellar contribution to the formation and integration of Latin American tourism journalists united in the OMTP, and for sharing his valuable contributions to the membership of Adompretur in this “International Workshop on Tourism Journalism”.

Luis José Chávez, president of the Ibero-American Forum of Tourism Journalists (Fipetur), was also recognized for his efforts to promote the professional recognition of tourism journalists and for his extraordinary contribution to the dissemination and development of this industry in Ibero-America.

Miguel Ledhesma and Luis José Chávez thanked Adompretur for taking into account the work carried out by their institutions in favor of the training of journalists who practice tourism journalism in their different countries.
