Adriano E. says open skies agreement will boost flights and reduce prices

Santo Domingo —At the signing of the historic Open Skies Air Transport Agreement between the United States and the Dominican Republic, U.S. Congressman Adriano Espaillat highlighted the multiple benefits this pact will bring to passengers and the economies of both nations.

He stressed that modern U.S. Open Skies agreements have generated more than US$4 billion in annual savings for passengers on these airlines.

“It’s a blueprint, an agreement that is going to save passengers money. This consumer-friendly agreement will provide more flight options between the United States and the Dominican Republic, reduce airfares, increase travel and trade, generate jobs and stimulate economic growth for our two great nations,” he explained.

The congressman highlighted that one of the most critical aspects of the agreement is that it will allow more families in the United States and the Dominican Republic to visit their loved ones, thanks to lower airline fares and increased available flights.

“Today’s historic agreement sends a message that the relationship between the United States and the Dominican Republic is stronger than ever, and that Dominican families and their relatives abroad are valued, and this is worth celebrating,” he added.

According to RC Noticias, the agreement was signed in the presence of representatives from the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Department of Transportation, and the U.S. Embassy in the Dominican Republic.

The agreement, part of President Luis Abinader ‘s strategic vision to position the Dominican Republic as a regional air connectivity hub, promises to open new economic and social opportunities for the Dominican Republic and its international partners, beginning a new era of connectivity and cooperation.

The document adds to other significant achievements during President Abinader’s administration, such as the Global Entry program, and reinforces the excellent bilateral relations based on mutual trust, the defense of democratic values and human rights, and multilateralism.
