After more than a decade Dominican Republic receives Icelandic flight

The Icelandic tour operator FiTravel made its first flight from Reykjavík to the Punta Cana airport, after more than a decade of suspending flights from Iceland.

Flight FI1047 arrived at the airport terminal with 182 passengers, including Thórunn Reynisdóttir, CEO of FiTravel, an agency that is studying the possibility of carrying out several frequencies during the fall of 2022.

FiTravel is a leading group of companies in the Icelandic market, which operates under the brands: Urval Utsyn, Sumarferdir, Plus Ferdir in the issuing market and works with the incoming Welcome Incoming Services of the Avoris Corporación Empresarial group, managed in the Dominican Republic by José Alarcón , who was present at the flight welcome.

The tourists arrived in the Boeing 757-256 with a capacity of 187 seats of the Icelandair airline, which was received to the rhythm of merengue by the folkloric ballet of the Ministry of Tourism directed by Oscar Batista.

Jarolin De la Cruz, director of the Tourism Promotion Office (OPT) Scandinavia, said that the interest in traveling to the Dominican Republic from the Nordic countries shows a potentially favorable growth.

“We hope that this initiative from a market that was absent for more than 10 years can represent support for the objective of our Ministry of Tourism to continue the reactivation of Dominican Tourism through the diversification of air routes, in order to further rebound the country’s economy. De la Cruz said.

The welcome ceremony was also attended by Carmen Santos, Executive Director of incoming tour operators in Quisqueya, Carlos Espinal and Vilma Tapia, Punta Cana Airport Director and representative of the Tourism office at said airport terminal, respectively.
