Airports in the Dominican Republic mobilize more than 7.9 million passengers in the first semester
The airports of the Dominican Republic mobilized a total of 7,937,942 passengers, transported in entry and exit operations in the first semester of 2019, which represents a relative growth of 4.8%, compared to the same period in 2018, according to the data offered by the Statistics Division of the Dominican Civil Aviation Board (JAC).
This growth is due to the more than 362,800 passengers, transported by the different airport terminals in the country, which means a record mark, when comparing the figures registered in previous years.
Of the first six months of the year, the month of March stands out with 1,475,731 passengers transferred to and from the Dominican Republic, followed by the month of January with 1,424,799.
While of the seven international airports of the country, five projected significant growth, excelling the Dr. Joaquín Balaguer – El Higüero International Airport, with 92%, which transported 18,056 more passengers than the previous year, followed by the International Airport of the Romana, with 81,228, obtaining 72.4%, in comparison to the same period. The largest number of passengers was moved through the Punta Cana International Airport, which reported more than 4,238,800 passengers moved by the terminal.
As for the airlines, those that reported the greatest mobilization of the flow of passengers are JetBlue, American Airlines, Delta Airlines and United Airlines.

In the last sessions of the Plenary of the JAC, a total of 622 new flights of passengers and cargo have been approved, coming from cities of the United States like New Orleans, Atlanta and Baltimore, as well as Puerto Rico, Curacao, San Martin and Venezuela , including 19 flights approved to the Canadian airline WestJet on the Calgary-Punta Cana-Calgary route, while by means of an amendment to the Operating Permit of the airline Finnair, the Helsinki-Punta Cana-Helsinki route was included.
