Bahia Principe plants 15,000 trees in Mexico and the Dominican Republic
Bahía Principe announced that, as part of its project for the sustainable management of the coastal areas of the destinations of Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Jamaica, where its hotels are located, it has already planted 15,000 trees and native species.
The hotel chain, which is part of the Piñeiro Group, of Spain, developed three nurseries, one in Mexico and two in the Dominican Republic, which are dedicated to the reproduction of protected, native and ornamental species to be used in landscaping and landscaping projects aligned with the sustainable management of the flora and fauna of those places, with the capacity to produce 400,000 plants per year.
In addition, it is collaborating with the National Botanical Garden of the Dominican Republic, in the identification of the main plant species of interest in the environment to establish protection measures for these tree species and contribute to their preservation.
This stage is working on time in the gardens and territories adjacent to the Luxury Bahia Principe Ambar, Riviera Maya Golf Club and Ocean’s 4, and the focus is on promoting the elimination of exotic species and their replacement by native plants, for which the Planted species were the Rosa de Bayahibe, which is the Dominican national flower, the Mahogany Tree, which is the national tree of the country, fruit trees such as Mango, Avocado and Cherry, and protected palms of different species.
Pablo del Toro, responsible for environmental management of Grupo Piñero, owner of the hotel chain, stressed that “It is very important for us to work on the improvement of biodiversity in the environment of our facilities and for this it is vital to achieve management sustainable coastal areas and improve the interaction of our activity with the coastal ecosystem ”.
