Fernando Gómez, general director of the Barceló Group in the Dominican Republic, indicated that “we are very pleased to host the Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange, (DATE 2022) on this new occasion. This important initiative of the Association of Hotels and Tourism (Asonahores) that in its beginnings began to be carried out in Santo Domingo, with the passage of time it gained relevance and as it grew, it was welcomed as on this occasion, in the Center of Barceló Bávaro Grand Resort Conventions.

He explained that the sum of government – private sector is an example for the world as recognized by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), and other international entities. That is why we are here tonight talking about the present and the exciting future prospects, which we must take full advantage of, because as the common people say, “The Dominican Republic is fashionable on the world tourism scene.” Is our moment.

He stated that, for Barceló, having the opportunity to celebrate the event in our house was of great importance, being able to demonstrate once again our vocation to be in the front line of support when it comes to Dominican tourism.

“That is why we do not hesitate to host this important edition of DATE, which, as shown by the high participation figures, is an important step to strengthen the privileged position of the DR on the international tourism scene,” he added.

In addition, he said that, “it is a good moment to recognize the constructive leadership that the president, Luis Abinader, gives us and his demonstrated commitment to tourism; and the daily work of the diligent Minister of Tourism, David Collado, to whom we convey our congratulations and our greatest recognition, for the great work he is doing at the head of the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur).

“The dynamism of Asonahores, to which our Eastern Hotel Association (Asoleste) and the hotel organizations of La Romana, Juan Dolio, Santo Domingo, Santiago, Puerto Plata and Samaná, and the most active tourist clusters, have also been very important. of the country,” he added.
