Catalonia Hotels & Resorts consolidate their commitment to the environment

Yesterday was launched the agreement with the Institute of Environmental Law of the Dominican Republic and the National Aquarium to carry out the “Program for the Recovery and Reintegration of Marine Species”

The activity, carried out in the spaces of the Laguna Dominicus Beach in Bayahibe operated by Catalonia Grand Dominicus, had the participation of the President of the Institute of Environmental Law, Cesar Vargas, the General Director of the National Aquarium, Wanda García, the Territorial Director of Catalonia Gonzalo Vera, representatives of the Ministry of the Environment and other institutions in the area. 

Under this agreement, a two-year commitment is created between the signatories to carry out activities focused on the recovery and reintegration of marine species aimed at environmental education, under the initiatives of the hotel chain and the monitoring of international environmental recognition programs Bandera Blue and Green Key.

The words of welcome were given by Mr. Gonzalo Vera Territorial Director of the hotel chain in the country, highlighting the commitment that Catalonia has with sustainable tourism and the initiatives of which this agreement is part.

The event was the stage to distinguish the preservation of marine biological diversity. Next, Cesar Antonio Vargas Pimentel President of IDARD expressed the great commitment that the Catalonia Hotels chain has with the maintenance of coastal spaces, developing activities of great importance as part of the environmental responsibility that the tourism sector must have. 

In the same area, Wanda García General Director of the National Aquarium highlighted the way in which the Aquarium’s technical team recovers specimens and performs a whole protocol under the supervision of a group of experts, who monitor the rehabilitation process of each rescued species in different areas of the Dominican Republic. Guaranteeing in this way a correct reinsertion to their natural habitat.

For his part, Mr. Yeralffi Arache East Zone Regional Supervisor on behalf of the Ministry of the Environment, announced the importance of Environmental Conservation programs to guarantee compliance with environmental legislation in the area and involve the hotel sector in the significant effort made by authorities and NGOs such as IDARD to promote good practices with species at risk.

The main intention of the IDARD signatories, the National Aquarium and Catalonia Hotels & Resorts, is to promote environmental programs in the area and invite responsible tourism to join these initiatives that guarantee sustainable tourism and the maintenance of local ecosystems in the country.
