Bergantín Beach, Puerto Plata.- As part of the intense program of inaugurations and activities spearheaded this weekend by President Luis Abinader and the Tourism Cabinet in Santiago and Puerto Plata, the Punta Bergantín Special Plan was launched, which contemplates the tourist boost Puerto Plata and the North Coast, as well as the development of a film project in this tourist province.
Within the framework of the Plan, an agreement was signed by President Luis Abinader and the film actor Vin Diesel, on behalf of One Race Film and which includes the start of a project that seeks to develop a technological innovation center and the construction of a film studio on this beach in Bergantín in a space of more than eight million square meters divided into several stages.
The signing was made on the shores of the paradisiacal beach of Bergantín in the middle of a radiant sun, with impressive landscape views of the Loma Isabel de Torre and the extensive beach area of the Costa del Ambar.
Bergantín will be the new tourist destination and headquarters of the Cinema and creative industries for a development of a tourist and urban nature and that will be supported with the construction of the Ambar Highway that will connect Santiago with Puerto Plata and the rest of the country.
Regarding this transcendent Plan, the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, affirms that its launch comes at a time of continuous growth, positive numbers and the confidence of investors contributing to the recovery of our tourism, thanks to the tireless work and to the effective strategies implemented by the Tourism Cabinet that allowed them to be recognized by international organizations.
“Without a doubt, the Dominican Republic has become a tourist film destination and this is due to the strong sanitary protocols implemented by the Tourism Cabinet headed by the President of the Republic Luis Abinader,” he said.
Meanwhile, President Abinader, who along with Collado and officials present gave a warm welcome to the actor from “Fast and Furious” Vin Diesel, in his speech highlighted the growth and development that the film industry has had in the country, by cataloging it as “A magnificent strategy for tourism promotion”.
“Today we want Bergantín to go down in history as a comprehensive, innovative and sustainable destination, and what better way to integrate the film industry to this proposal,” said President Abinader at the event.
The coastal region contemplated in the Plan is formulated under the idea of a coastline and multi-destinations that go from Punta Rucia through iconic enclaves of national tourism such as La Isabela, San Felipe de Puerto Plata; Punta Bergantín, Sosúa, Cabarete, Río San Juan and Cabrera, impacting more than 250 kilometers of coastline and more than 400 thousand inhabitants of the provinces of Puerto Plata, Espaillat and María Trinidad Sánchez.
The Tourism Plan, which includes some 29 projects organized in eight strategic axes, will cover priority infrastructure and service works, as well as special projects that will reinvent tourism on the North Coast, all compensated with local actors: the Reorganization and Management Plan from La Ensenada Beach, Luperón, Long Beach, Sosúa and Cabarete.

The initiative also seeks to develop nautical tourism through a public-private alliance for the reactivation of the Luperón Bay dock; reorganization in the rescue of La Puntilla from the boardwalk of this city, as well as the enhancement of the property of the Historic Center for new uses of crafts and local gastronomy.
It will include the remodeling and expansion of the iconic Puerto Plata Cable Car, which has been registering an increase in visits each year by local and foreign tourists, while in Cabarete investments will be made in infrastructure, reorganization and promotion of the world-renowned destination for water sports.
It will also work hand in hand with the Environment and Natural Resources for the conservation and intervention in the Gri-Gri Lagoon of Río San Juan and in the Estro Hondo Marine Sanctuary as well as other protected areas.
