Dominican hotels operate at 90% after the passage of Hurricane Fiona

Leading a meeting at the provincial government with government authorities and service institutions, the president assured that they all work in a coordinated manner so that normality in all orders reaches this province and the others affected by the atmospheric phenomenon.

President Abinader reported that from the special operational funds of the Presidency, a contribution will be delivered on Thursday to all mayors and district directors of the affected areas of the country to hire personnel and can deal with debris situations, as well as other issues. of consideration.

He specified that the amount of the contributions will be announced by the Administrative Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, on Wednesday and will be delivered on Thursday.

“This is a budgetary contribution to each of the mayors’ offices and municipal districts,” said the head of state.

In relation to the issue of electrical energy, which he defined as extremely important, President Abinader pointed out that he had already spoken with the general manager of EdeEste, Andrés Portes, and Manuel Lara, who chairs the Unified Council of the Edes, so that normalization is achieved in the shortest possible time.

In the municipality of Higüey, he indicated, they hope to advance by 20% and gradually, in the next nine days, restore the entire electrical system.

Hotels operate at 90%
Regarding Tourism, President Abinader explained that although flights were suspended, the Punta Cana airport is operating normally. He also highlighted that 90% of the hotels in the region are operating normally and the remaining 10% will be in operation in about 10 days.

He expressed that today he hopes that everything that is road infrastructure does not have any situation that prevents traffic. Since last night, work has been done to allow vehicular flow throughout the province of La Altagracia.

Regarding security, he explained that he requested special help from the Armed Forces, which began a special operation last night both in the east and in the northeast of the country, which will last for the rest of the week.

In the case of La Romana, Hato Mayor and El Seibo, he pointed out that in each of these provinces there is already approximately between 10 and 20% of electricity currently, and in the next 6 days it will be improved, until the definitive solution is reached. .

“This is so because the transmission line that comes from La Romana, both the D69 KV and the 138 KV, is affected and it will not be until 2 in the afternoon that the Energy Transmission Company will be able to recover it after having several poles and towers that were affected by the hurricane” reported the president.

He stressed that the entire social cabinet of the Government is present in the province and the Eastern region. In addition, he said that in the rest of the week he will go to the other provinces affected by Hurricane Fiona.

Likewise, the president added that passenger transport is being carried out along the Coral highway until the Duey River lowers its course.

“We are confident that each one of the Government agencies and institutions, as well as the local Government and all the executive institutions of the Government are doing their job and the sooner the operations of this province and the other affected provinces will be normalized. This one,” said the ruler.

When answering questions from the press about the general damage report, he explained that the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development is working on the implementation, for the first time, of a program to have an estimate of the damage both in infrastructure and agriculture and other aspects. .

He explained that the aforementioned entities work with all government institutions, keeping in constant communication. In addition, he said that it would take about 5 days to have an estimate of the damage caused by Hurricane Fiona.

Operational plan for vulnerable areas
The president said that currently it is operating normally from hospitals and there are also several emergency campaign, thanks to the collaboration of the bishop of the diocese of La Altagracia, Monsignor Jesús Castro Marte.

He reported that the Minister of Housing and Buildings, Carlos Bonilla, is working on an inventory of all the construction materials that are needed. For this, it works jointly with the municipal administration of Yuma, Higüey, Nisibón, La Otra Banda and the different districts of the entire Eastern region.

“We are going to help all the people who have suffered in the most vulnerable sectors,” he said.

Similarly, he said that the Social Plan of the Presidency works with the distribution of mattresses and raw food. Also, the Economic Kitchens work distributing cooked food.

He announced that they will implement a special bonus through Supérate for residents of the areas affected by Hurricane Fiona and added that they are working on the inventory of personnel to deliver the bonus.

President Abinader confirmed that the start of the school year, scheduled for this Wednesday, continues, before the question of whether it would be postponed. He reported that the official opening ceremony of the school year will be held in the municipal district of La Victoria, in North Santo Domingo.

He stressed that the Ministry of Education will decide when the school year begins according to the particular situation of each province before the passage of the atmospheric phenomenon.

President Abinader ended his tour in La Altagracia with a visit to Barrio Los Platanitos. There he was received with great joy by the affected families, to whom he stated that he is going to work in the urgency that the province has.

“What we are going to do are two things: first urgently, we are going to go to the social cabinet to bring food, which started last night and will continue from today; in a few days we are going to bring mattresses and mats and the Ministry of the Housing that comes from the other streets making an inventory of all the affected houses; we are going to bring zinc, wood to help our neighbors,” said the official.

Similarly, the head of state urged the community to work together, in a difficult situation that belongs to everyone.
