Dominican president announced the construction of a convention center in Santo Domingo
Luis Abinader reported that the project is conceived through a public-private alliance, which he considered a fundamental tool for the development of the hospitality industry in this city
President Luis Abinader gave this Tuesday the first palazo for the construction of the Mauad Boutique Hotel, in the Gazcue sector, National District.
During the activity, the president announced the construction of a convention and exhibition center in the city of Santo Domingo to strengthen tourism, as well as Phase II of the rehabilitation of the Colonial City.
He reported that the project is conceived through a public-private alliance, which he considered a fundamental tool for the development of the hotel industry in this city.
Abinader said that soon, together with the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, they will offer the details of the Convention and Exhibition Center.
He also announced that in January next year phase II of the rehabilitation of the Colonial Zone begins, with the contribution of 90 million dollars from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), plus five that will be disbursed by the central government.
Alejandro Mauad, president of Mauad Hotel Boutique, expressed his satisfaction at the start of the hotel, which will have ten levels and 125 rooms.
He thanked the Government for the support offered and predicted that the new hotel will help increase the entry of tourists to the country, generate hundreds of jobs and increase foreign investment.
“We are very pleased to begin the construction of the hotel, our second bet in the tourism of this country, because for three years our hotel has been operating exponentially and thanks to this, today we can continue to contribute to the economic growth of the Dominican Republic” Mauad stated.
The Minister of Tourism, David Collado, highlighted that this type of project indicates the confidence that investors have in the country’s hotel development.
The official said that “we are pleased to continue promoting tourism, and to see that the country continues to establish itself day by day as a power in the Caribbean and Latin America in this sector.”
The work, which is expected to be completed in eight months, will have two swimming pools, a spa, a beauty salon, restaurants and a room for events, among other facilities.
Also present at the event were the ministers of Public Works, Deligne Ascensión Burgos and of Special Projects of the Presidency, José Leonel Cabrera (Neney); as well as Paola Rainieri, president of the Association of Hotels and Restaurants, among other personalities.
