Dominican Rep. present at the XXV General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization in Uzbekistan
The Dominican Republic was present at the XXV General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization in the city of Samarkand, Uzbekistan, which ends this Friday 20, where important issues related to sustainable tourism, education and investment were discussed.
The UNWTO Ulysses Award for Excellence in the Creation and Dissemination of Knowledge in Tourism is awarded to distinguished academic personalities in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the tourism sector, as is held every two years within the framework of the Assembly. Established in 2003, the Award is presented to representatives of the academic world who stand out for their outstanding achievements and on this occasion the winner is Dr. Jigang Bao, Professor and Director of the Research Center for Tourism Development and Planning at Yat-sen University in Guangzhou, China.
The delegation of the Dominican Republic was composed of Carlos Peguero, Vice Minister of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Tourism, Anabel Bueno Santana, Ambassador of the Mission of the Dominican Republic, Aníbal De Castro Rodriguez, Permanent Representative of the Dominican Republic to the UNWTO and Mercedes Pichardo, Personal Assistant to the President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader Corona.
Within the framework of this XXV General Assembly of the UNWTO, the 119th Meeting of the Executive Council was also held, recalling that in the previous edition, the Dominican Republic was the venue, when it was held in the Bávaro Punta Cana area, in addition to the World Education Forum and the Global Investment Forum.
The World Education Forum featured the High-Level Ministerial Debate on Policies to foster innovation and education for current and future generations as well as the keynote address: Education, Investing in the Future. The program of this forum also addressed the theme Opening horizons: Tourism as an essential discipline of education and prospects for youth. A presentation on UNWTO tools for education and another speech: Unleashing the Power of Tomorrow: Transforming Technology, Innovation and Education for a Boundless Future.
Meanwhile, the Global Investment Forum began with the presentation of the paper: “Global Trends in Tourism Investment: The UNWTO Investment Framework for Making Tourism a State Policy. Official presentation of the investment guide “Tourism Doing Business: Investing in Uzbekistan”.
Other topics covered were: Perspectives in tourism investment: promoting new forms of sustainable hospitality and infrastructure investment, the changing role of private equity and corporations, and Accelerating venture capital for entrepreneurship and startups.
