Dominican Republic, among the favorite destinations of Americans for winter vacations
The Dominican Republic ranks fourth on the list of places U.S. travelers prefer for their winter getaways for the 2024-2025 season, according to demand trends based on data intelligence from Mabrian Travel Intelligence.
The “Mabrian Search Share Index” indicates that there is growing interest in Costa Rica, Puerto Rico and the Mexican Caribbean, as well as in specific destinations such as Jamaica, the Bahamas and the DR.
Demand for Dominican supply grew by 4% in the “Destinations with the largest year-over-year increase in inspirational demand from the U.S. to the Caribbean” table, based on the Search Quota Index study of flights departing from the top 20 U.S. airports, which account for 85% of total international air connectivity from the United States.
This growth reflects the record reported in October for travel between November 2024 and February 2025 to the Caribbean destinations of greatest interest to Americans (Mexican Caribbean, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Barbados, Dominican Republic, Jamaica and Bahamas).
The United States is traditionally a very relevant outbound market for Caribbean destinations, especially during the winter season, according to the latest data available from the Caribbean Tourism Association (CTO).
The performance of the Search Share Index of the U.S. market to Caribbean destinations for this winter shows that, of all the countries analyzed, the inspirational demand to Costa Rica is the one that grows the most, +33% year-on-year, according to Resumen Turismo.
Other Caribbean destinations showing a growing trend in inspirational demand are Puerto Rico (up +9% over the same period in 2023); the Mexican Caribbean (an average increase of +6% for Cancun, Cozumel and Tulum airports); and the Dominican Republic (an average increase of +4%, driven mainly by Las Americas Airport in Santo Domingo).
Finally, and among the destinations that are attracting less interest among U.S. travelers for the winter vacations in the Caribbean, are Jamaica with -17% less searches compared to the previous winter, and Bahamas with -20%.
