In this 69th edition of the meeting, the DR will chair the meeting that brings together some twenty countries seeking to reflect on the development of the tourism industry in the Americas.

The Dominican Republic will once again participate today in the meeting of the Regional Commission of the Americas of UN Tourism, but this time as president of the activity, which will be held in this Cuban city for two days, where different topics related to the development of the tourism sector in the region will be addressed.

In this 69th edition of the meeting, the DR will preside over the meeting that brings together some twenty countries seeking to reflect on the development of the tourism industry in the Americas.

In addition to the challenges facing tourism in the participating countries, the topics of investment, education, empowerment and, above all, initiatives to make tourism more responsible and sustainable will be addressed.

The general work plans of each country and their progress will also be discussed. “The pandemic is over, but now there are other challenges to be addressed, such as the issue of connectivity,” explained Zurab Pololikashvili, secretary general of UN Tourism.

He said events like this are quite important, as the Americas and the Caribbean is a priority for UN Tourism. “That the Dominican Republic is this time the one chairing the commission meeting demonstrates its leadership in the sector. Here we are going to talk about investment and education, which is quite important,” he added.
