Dominican Republic, unstoppable: achieves record 6.9 million visitors through July

Santo Domingo—Tourism continues to register “sustained and extraordinary” growth in the Dominican Republic, reaching a record 6,968,623 visitors in the first seven months of this year, which brings the historic figure of 31,947,565 visits from August 2020 to July 2024.

The Minister of Tourism, David Collado, demonstrated this when he presented figures on tourism behavior during an activity carried out in a Dominican capital hotel.

He reported that in July alone, 811,192 tourists arrived in the country by air, 2% more than in the same month last year, 10% more than in 2022, and 37% more than in 2019.

He also said that the country received 206,704 cruise passengers last month, 39% more than the previous month, 95% above 2022, and 148% higher than 2019.

“We are talking that last month alone the country received 1,017,896 visitors, 8% above last year, 21% more than in 2022 and 51% higher than in 2019,” said the minister in his now traditional monthly report on the sector’s performance.

He indicated that growth was sustained throughout the January-July period, when the country recorded the arrival, by air, of 5,286,174 non-residents, exceeding it by 8% in the first seven months of last year, 23% in 2022, and 27% in 2019.

Collado points out that the growth by sea was much higher, with the arrival of 1,682,449 cruise passengers, which represents an increase of 19% over the January-July period last year, 155% higher than 2022, and 156% above 2019.

“And so we get the big number: 6,968,623 visitors in the first 7 months of the year. We do it again,” the official proclaimed.

He stated that it represents a growth of 11% more than in 2023, 41% above 2022, 44% of 2019, and 48% of 2018.

He highlighted that from August 16 through July, the country received 31,947, 565 surpassing any previous quadrennium’s growth.

“All of this indicates the strong growth of tourism in our administration,” Collado emphasized.
