DR achieves historic record with more than one million cruise passengers through May

Cruise tourism continues in full recovery in the DR and as proof of this the Dominican Port Authority (Apordom) reported that “in just five months of 2023, we have received the incredible visit of 1,122,207 cruise passengers, surpassing in less than half of the year the figure for the whole of 2019″.

“Cruise tourism is at its best in our beloved Dominican Republic! And in May, another 137,311 cruise passengers were added, thus surpassing the 57,385 that arrived in 2022 and the 55,694 in 2019, who enjoyed our Dominican warmth,” the entity stated on its social networks.

In that sense, the most outstanding terminals for the number of vessels received are Amber Cove, Taíno Bay, closely followed by La Romana, and Santo Domingo.

The Amber Cove terminal received 75,518 cruise passengers and Taino Bay 49,637, both ports located in Puerto Plata.

The La Romana cruise terminal received 8,368 passengers and Santo Domingo Ferris received 3,504 cruise passengers.

“The DR continues to experience a vertiginous and exponential growth in the arrival of cruise passengers and this is evidenced by the figures reflected in the statistics of the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur)”, indicated Apordom.
