Government will begin to reorganize the country’s tourist poles
Part of the legacy that the government and the minister of tourism want to leave the country is the reorganization of the tourist hubs, which is why in seven- or eight-days President Luis Abinader and David Collado will go to Bávaro-Punta Cana to reorganize everything from transit to security and implement the land-use plan.
Making the announcement as a scoop to the journalists who covered the events of the International Tourism Fair (Fitur 2025), Collado explained that President Abinader told him that, “I’m not leaving Bávaro-Punta Cana until we finish and come out with a clear and precise agreement.” They will do the same, he added, in Samaná, Las Terrenas, Puerto Plata and Bayahibe.
In this sense, Collado affirmed that the government has a clear vision of renovating the infrastructure, because that provides security and makes tourists leave the hotels and consume in the cities, which translates into the emergence of new restaurants, businesses and opportunities.
“We have a clear, comprehensive vision of what we want to do with the development of tourism in the country,” Collado said.
Asked about the destinations Jarabacoa and Constanza, Collado explained that they are carrying out infrastructure interventions in that area: in Constanza there is now a road more than 400 kilometers long, while in Jarabacoa work is being done on land use planning.
“Jarabacoa is growing strongly, and we don’t want it to become disorganized, to have disproportionate and unplanned growth,” said Collado.
Having said that, he explained that these poles have not been included in the destination brand because those presented on Tuesday (Santiago, Costa del Ámbar, Miches, Samaná and Punta Cana) were the product of work with the clusters and have a greater flow of tourists. He went on to say that they will work with Jarabacoa and other destinations later.
In other news, he announced that he will relaunch the campaign that was carried out in 2022 to promote domestic tourism and that he will promote an alliance with the banks and Asonahores to offer a special rate to Dominicans in the low season, from May to September.
