Grupo Piñero Awarded the Sustainability Award at the “Traveling For Happiness Awards”

Santo Domingo , June 30, 2021 .- Grupo Piñero, a Spanish tourism company with more than 40 years of history, has been awarded the Traveling For Happiness Award in the sustainability category for its project ‘Plan de Gestión Integral del Litoral’ ( PGIL) . The awards ceremony took place yesterday at the Mandarin Oriental Ritz Hotel in Madrid and brought together different personalities from the tourism, economic, political and social sectors.

These awards, granted by the Madrid Hotel Business Association (AEHM) and Connecting Heads , recognize the best national and international practices in the tourism sector in the following categories: sustainability, people management, health, social impact, leadership, international and friends of the hotel sector. The jury, made up of people of recognized prestige worldwide from the tourism, health or Corporate Social Responsibility sector, has thus recognized Grupo Piñero’s commitment in the field of sustainability related to tourism.

In the words of Antonia del Toro, director of Corporate Responsibility of the company, “ “ We are very happy to receive this recognition that undoubtedly encourages us to continue working on the path towards Sustainability. We are convinced that sustainable transformation will be the key to economic, social and environmental recovery. Promoting the conservation and sustainability of the environment

The ‘Comprehensive Coastal Management Plan’ is a project developed by Grupo Piñero that responds to its sustainability strategy, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations. It was launched in 2019 and aims to plan and sustainably manage all existing resources within the company’s properties, in order to achieve more integrated, responsible and intelligent territories, adapted to the new reality.

The project is developed in three main areas of action: the socioeconomic environment, the beach-dune system and the aquatic environment. All the actions are distributed in 5 programs: Water, Biodiversity, Corals, Landscape and Beaches.

Currently , the ‘ Plan de Gestión Integral del Litoral’ is already present in the Dominican Republic, Riviera Maya-Mexico and Jamaica, through the Living Resorts business unit, which encompasses the hotels, residential complexes and golf courses that operate under the Bahia Principe brand. During 2020, Grupo Piñero made an investment in the environmental area of ​​8 million euros, of which 2 million were allocated to this project.

This initiative is part of the company’s commitment to the Planet, in the work it carries out to adapt its management to climate risks, creating a clean and circular business model that optimally manages resources. Within this framework, Grupo Piñero has launched the “ We are Ecoístas ” movement, through which it wants to invite all people to bring out the ‘Ecoísta’ side that they carry within.
