Iberostar promotes responsible tourism in Caribbean destinations
In order to promote responsible tourism, the Iberostar Group has launched ‘Responsible Meetings’ at its properties located throughout the Caribbean.
Thus, it is intended to develop a new way of offering meeting experiences, incentive trips, conventions and ecological events.
Coinciding with the increase in demand for corporate travel, the Spanish hotel company aims to raise awareness about responsible business travel, going beyond recycling and zero waste.
Working towards the values of the circular economy, Iberostar uses efficient waste management; reduces disposable options; offers gourmet menus that include responsibly sourced seafood, as well as activities that reinforce a better team connection.
Iberostar offers activities that are related to one of its main initiatives: the Wave of Change movement, with which groups can join team-building activities that focus on sustainable initiatives, including those that are a direct contribution aimed at improving the ocean and coastal health, such as planting mangroves and cleaning local beaches.
In the same way, the Spanish hotel chain contributes to a circular economy by being free of single-use plastics in the rooms, meeting spaces and throughout the property; continuing with a paperless philosophy established in 2017; effectively manage waste; have composting programs on site and replace traditional displays with digital programs and signage.
Thus, with 80% of its hotels located in front of the sea and its destination properties in the Caribbean in Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Jamaica, the Iberostar company has been a pioneer in the ecotourism movement, establishing a more responsible approach to meetings developed for the group’s main priority: sustainability.
