The Colonial City of Santo Domingo strengthens its integral offer as a tourist and cultural destination, with its revitalization program to attract more visitors seeking new experiences in the DR.

With the Integral Tourism and Urban Development Program of the Colonial City of Santo Domingo (PIDTUCCSD), implemented by the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur), with financing from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and with the support of the Santo Domingo Tourism Cluster (CTSD) and the Association of Hotels of Santo Domingo (AHSD), there is an interest in projecting all the attributes and potential of the area.

Rosanna Rivera, director of Tourism of the Colonial City and Amín Abel Santos, general coordinator of the PIDTUCCSD, explained the tourism and social impact projects, with a view to making the historic center of Santo Domingo more and more competitive.

They offered all the details regarding the variety of options offered by the destination based on the pillars of urban tourism such as: history, which can be appreciated in all its museums, monuments and cultural heritage; gastronomy, with numerous restaurants serving local and international cuisine.

As well as, day and night entertainment, with all its bars, concerts and the diversity of activities that take place during the day; art, with different theaters and art galleries, which reflect and exhibit part of what constitutes the Dominican culture; the proposals for accommodation with high quality hotels, in addition to the options for the celebration of events.

As part of the renovation processes that the Colonial City is undergoing, carried out by Mitur in conjunction with other important institutions committed to its revitalization, the restoration of its most emblematic museums and historical monuments, such as the Alcazar de Colon, the Royal Houses, the Fortress of Santo Domingo and the Cathedral, as well as the Puerta de la Misericordia, and several temples, stand out.

“We take advantage of this important event to reaffirm our commitment to continue working all together, around the same vision, to continue strengthening and promoting tourism in the city of Santo Domingo, fostering growth in the flow of visitors, in addition to continuing to preserve the Colonial City and all the wealth it holds as a World Heritage Site,” they said.

They also added that “we are very pleased to be present in this scenario that constitutes DATE, also to be fulfilling our objective in this fair, and to hold the meetings we have held, which have been very fruitful, which allows us to ensure that our participation has been successful”.
