Javier García inaugurated the Dominican Republic´s booth
Francisco Javier García, Minister of Tourism of the Dominican Republic said that the prospects for this 2020 are excellent and that the new offers project great growth for tourism in the Dominican Republic. Garcia offered these statements during the opening ceremony of the 40th version of the International Tourism Fair (FITUR), which is held in Madrid, Spain, from January 22 to 26, 2020.
“The confidence has returned again to the North American market and to the Canadian market, because investments continue to flow in a positive way and later announcements of new projects for the Dominican Republic will be made.”
He informed that FITUR is the global meeting point for tourism professionals and the leading fair for the receptive and outgoing Latin American markets, hence the great importance of the country’s participation in this conclave.
During his tour of the Dominican stand, the Minister of Tourism was accompanied by the directors of the Tourist Promotion Offices (OPT) for Spain & Portugal, and Europe & Germany, Karyna Font-Bernard and Petra Cruz, respectively, as well as the Dominican Republic ambassador to the Iberian country, Olivo Martinez, among other personalities linked to the tourism sector.
The Minister of Tourism also indicated that «Pedernales will be the first tourist center that would start completely with a land use plan from the beginning. He said that the master plan for its development was approved with a first stage of 10,000 rooms by a French-Canadian company, while pointing out that this is the definitive start-up year of the South in tourism.
The official said he hopes that by the middle of this year, the Dominican Republic will reach the percentage growth levels in which it was in previous years.
García informed that in a short time a modern amphitheater will be built in the Bay of Samaná, which will have the same success of Puerto Plata, a scenario where more Dominican artists have performed.
The Dominican Republic has its space in the pavilion, stand 3B03, where 35 business co-exhibitors and 19 companies are present, adding a total of 57 Dominican companies.
Last year, the Dominican Republic was a country invited to FITUR, said conclave had 253,490 participants, 142,642 professionals, 110,848 general public, 5,367 media and 10,487 companies.
