Kimpton Is Coming to a New Caribbean Island: Roatan
Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants is set to debut its second Caribbean resort next month, Caribbean Journal has confirmed.
The company is now taking reservations for the new Kimpton Grand Roatan Resort and Spa, which will open up on the popular island off the Caribbean coast of Honduras on Oct. 1.
The hotel, set along the world’s second-largest barrier reef, will include a mix of 119 rooms, including traditional units, bungalows, suites and 28 rentable condo units with kitchens.
It’s set on West Bay Beach on the very southwestern tip of the island, which has always been one of the most beloved destinations in the western Caribbean.
It will be the second Kimpton resort in the Caribbean, joining the renowned Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa in Grand Cayman.
The resort will be centered around a “beachside” infinity pool, with a broad slate of amenities and dining options.
The culinary program includes four eateries: Alera, a “locally sourced, Mediterranean-inspired” restaurant; Cafe Vos, a coffee and cocktail bar; a beach bar called Sea Cat; and a “surf shack” called The Drop Off.
Wellness offerings will include a 24-hour fitness center and the Kao Kamasa Spa,
It will include typical Kimpton touches: think free evening cocktail hours, yoga mats in the rooms, locally-stocked mini bars and morning coffee and tea service, among others.
It’s a huge addition to Roatan — Kimpton (which is part of IHG) is the first major International brand to debut on the island, which has typically been home to smaller, independent boutique hotels.
That seems to make Kimpton, which largely pioneered the boutique hotel concept in the US and has made blending into the local environment a corporate requirement, a good fit for the island.
If the spectacular success of its Grand Cayman outpost is any indication, it should be a win for they island.
